This cartridge is designed for high-performance pH adjustment and is capable of raising and maintaining a consistent pH of approximately 8.5 for up to 12 months. Testing has been conducted over a 12-month period, with performance expected to extend beyond this timeframe.

The cartridge uses a special grade of magnesium media that is highly sacrificial, allowing for a rapid increase in pH. This makes it particularly suitable for use as a post reverse osmosis alkaline stage.

As with all sacrificial alkaliser cartridges, a small amount of magnesium is released into the final drinking water. The level of magnesium introduced will vary depending on conditions, however testing has shown an average increase of approximately 20 to 45 ppm.

Prior to use, the cartridge must be pre-flushed to remove fine particles. A flush time of approximately 3 to 5 minutes using mains pressure water is recommended. Systems supplied with this cartridge are pre-washed, however replacement cartridges are sold dry and require pre-rinsing before installation.

After rinsing, total dissolved solids (TDS) levels may initially measure between 70 and 100 ppm depending on rinse duration and method. These levels will reduce quickly to the average operating output.

For optimal taste reduction, the Xstream carbon cartridge must be installed after the alkaline cartridge. Both cartridges should be ordered together if the Xstream alkaline system is not already in use.

Cartridge lifespan is determined by pH performance. Once the pH of the final water drops below the desired level, the alkaline cartridge should be replaced. Expected service life is approximately 12 to 24 months.
