Cost & Pricing

Fixed pricing: under-sink from $550, reverse osmosis from $840, whole house HPF-3 from $3,150. All prices include supply of the system, all fittings, professional installation by a licensed plumber, a full system walkthrough and a lifetime workmanship warranty. There are no call-out fees and no hidden charges. The price quoted before the job is the price charged on the day.
Every installation price from Filters For You includes: the complete system with all filter cartridges, all fittings and adapters, professional installation by Jean-Paul Barber (NSW Lic. 461511C), drilling of the filter tap hole if required, a full system walkthrough and operation guide, and a lifetime workmanship warranty on all labour. There is no call-out fee.
Yes — filter cartridge replacements are the main ongoing cost. For a twin-stage under-sink system, cartridges cost approximately $80–120 per year. For a 5-stage reverse osmosis system, cartridge replacement costs around $120–200 per year depending on water usage and quality. Filters For You stocks replacement cartridges for all systems and can schedule annual servicing. The annual cost is a fraction of what most households spend on bottled water.
No. Jean-Paul does not charge a call-out fee or travel surcharge for any suburb within greater Sydney. The fixed price you are quoted covers everything — supply, installation, walkthrough and warranty.

Installation Process

Installation times: twin-stage under-sink systems take approximately 1.5 hours. Reverse osmosis systems (5 to 7 stage) take approximately 2 hours. The HPF-3 Whole House system takes 2.5–3 hours. Jean-Paul completes all installation work in a single visit — no return trips needed.
Yes. An adult needs to be present during the installation so Jean-Paul can access the kitchen (or water meter for whole house systems), conduct the installation and provide the full system walkthrough at the end. You will need access to the water shutoff for the installation period.
Jean-Paul arrives at the agreed time with all equipment. He inspects the installation area and confirms the system location. He completes the installation, connects the water supply, tests the system for leaks and flushes the initial filter media. He then conducts a full walkthrough — showing you how to operate the system, when to replace filters and what the maintenance schedule looks like. The whole process is complete in a single visit.
Clear the cabinet under the kitchen sink so Jean-Paul has easy access. For whole house installations, ensure the water meter area is accessible and unobstructed. That's all — Jean-Paul brings everything else including all fittings, adapters, tools and the filter system itself.

System Types

An under-sink carbon filter (like the Pure Essential, $550) removes chlorine, sediment, taste and odour effectively. It has a fast flow rate and low annual maintenance cost — the right choice if your primary concern is taste improvement and basic filtration. A reverse osmosis system (from $840) goes further — using a semi-permeable membrane to remove up to 99% of dissolved contaminants including chloramines, fluoride, heavy metals, nitrates and microplastics. The water is stored in a small tank and dispensed from a dedicated tap. If you want the absolute best drinking water quality comparable to premium bottled water, reverse osmosis is the choice.
A whole house filter (the HPF-3 system, from $3,150) connects at your home's water meter — before the water enters any part of the house. Every tap, shower, bath, dishwasher, washing machine and garden tap receives filtered water. It's the most comprehensive option, ensuring filtered water is available everywhere in the home, not just from the kitchen tap. It's suitable for freestanding houses with accessible water meters. Jean-Paul confirms suitability before booking.
Filters For You installs: Pure Essential Twin Stage Under Sink ($550), Pure Plus+ 5 Stage Reverse Osmosis ($840), Pure Compact 3 Stage Alkaline RO ($930), Pure Premium 7 Stage Reverse Osmosis ($1,180), Pure Luxe Smart Monitoring 5 Stage RO ($1,740), and HPF-3 Whole House High Performance Filtration ($3,150+). All systems are WaterMark certified and include supply and installation.
Filters For You supplies and installs systems from High Performance Filtration (HPF), Filter Systems Australia (FSA), Puretec, Zip and Billi. All systems installed are WaterMark certified to Australian standards.

Water Quality

Sydney Water's supply meets Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and is considered safe by regulatory standards. However, it contains chloramines (which affect taste and odour), fluoride (added for dental health), disinfection byproducts including trihalomethanes, and trace microplastics. Many Sydney residents choose filtration not because the water is unsafe, but because they want to remove these additives and improve the taste, smell and overall quality of their daily drinking water.
Filters For You systems remove: chlorine and chloramines (taste and odour), sediment and particulates, microplastics, fluoride (RO systems), heavy metals including lead, disinfection byproducts, nitrates and nitrites (RO systems), bacteria (RO systems with appropriate membranes), and PFAS compounds (RO systems). The level of removal depends on the system stage count and membrane type. Jean-Paul will advise on which system addresses your specific concerns.
Microplastics have been detected in urban water supplies globally, including Sydney. Standard carbon filters can capture larger microplastic particles; reverse osmosis membranes remove essentially all microplastic particles due to the extremely small pore size (typically 0.0001 microns). Regarding household pipes — modern copper and PVC pipes do not add significant microplastics. Older plastic piping materials in some buildings can contribute trace plasticisers, but the primary microplastic exposure in tap water comes from the supply network. An RO system installed at the point of use effectively addresses microplastics from all sources before the water reaches your glass.
Sydney Water's treated supply has not been found to contain PFAS at levels exceeding health guidelines. However, some areas of Sydney — particularly around Botany Bay, certain defence sites and industrial zones — have identified PFAS in groundwater. Sydney Water's treated distribution system is separate from local groundwater. For residents in areas with known groundwater PFAS monitoring who want maximum assurance, a reverse osmosis system is the recommended choice — RO is currently the most effective residential technology for PFAS removal from drinking water.

Apartments & Rentals

In most cases, yes. Under-sink and reverse osmosis systems install entirely within your own kitchen cabinet — no work in common areas, no structural changes, no alteration to the building's common plumbing. Strata approval is generally not required because the installation does not affect common property. If your strata corporation requires notification, Jean-Paul can provide documentation describing the non-invasive installation method. Confirm with your strata manager if you are unsure about your specific building's rules.
Yes. Jean-Paul's under-sink systems are fully reversible — they connect via a standard saddle valve to your existing cold water supply line and install within your kitchen cabinet. When you move out, the system comes with you and the connection is capped cleanly with no damage. Most landlords are comfortable with this type of non-structural installation. Check with your landlord before booking. Approval is typically straightforward.
The Pure Essential Twin Stage Under Sink system is the most compact, requiring approximately 35cm of under-sink depth and 25cm width. The Pure Plus+ Reverse Osmosis system requires approximately 45–50cm of depth. Jean-Paul will measure the available space before beginning installation and can advise on the best system for tight kitchen configurations.

Maintenance & Warranty

For a standard twin-stage under-sink filter, cartridges should be replaced every 12 months. For reverse osmosis systems, sediment and carbon pre-filters are replaced every 12 months; the RO membrane is replaced every 2–3 years; post-filters are replaced every 12 months. Jean-Paul provides a full maintenance schedule at the end of every installation. Filters For You stocks replacement cartridges for all systems.
The lifetime workmanship warranty covers all labour completed by Jean-Paul during the installation — the connections, fittings, tap mounting and any modifications made to your plumbing during the job. If any aspect of Jean-Paul's installation work develops a fault, he will return and rectify it at no charge. The warranty covers workmanship, not system components themselves (which are covered by the manufacturer's warranty). This warranty applies for as long as you own the property.
The most reliable indicator is the annual calendar — replace cartridges every 12 months regardless of whether you notice a change in taste. Other signs include a reduction in flow rate from the filter tap (indicating a clogged pre-filter), a return of chlorine taste or odour (indicating an expired carbon stage), or a warning notification from the app (for Pure Luxe smart monitoring systems). Jean-Paul can set up annual servicing reminders at the time of installation.
